This past weekend Chris and I were able to enjoy Chris' family. John (Chris'dad)planned a great weekend full of outdoor fun and excitement. Chris arrived Friday afternoon at Colter Bay, where John had set up a great campsite. There they spent most of Friday, just setting up camp and exploring. Saturday morning Chris, Tracie and her two kids Taryn (3) and Johnny (1), decided to go for a walk. As they were walking, a great big black bear crossed in front of them.(not even 20 feet away) Chris was trying to think of a way to scare off the bear if he had to, but could not think of anything. He came to realize that if the bear came after them, he would have to be the bait to lure it away from Tracie and the kids, he didn't like that thought, but knew if had to, he would. Thankfully the bear was not interested in them and just kept walking. Saturday afternoon I met up with them in Jackson Hole WY. We had arrangements to go white water rafting down the Hoback River. While we were floating down the river, a thunderstorm rolled in, getting us wet and cold, but it made the rapids bigger and better. Brooklyn wanted to go into the river, but she would not go with out someone else, so of course, I went in too. I have to say, it was warmer in the water then out. Our guide's name was Tara, she was great fun, especially when we hit the "BIG KAHUNA", we hit the rapid so hard, she either had the choice of falling out of the boat into the river or falling into the boat. She chose inside. She said she has never had that happen to her before. So that made it exciting. After the water trip we headed back to camp. There we prepared hamburgers for dinner. Sunday morning, Chris and I woke up to two little girls wanting come into the tent with us. So of course we allowed them. Taryn wanted to listen to a story, so Uncle Chris told her the story of Goldielocks And The Three Bears. Not two minutes after the end of the bear story, Tracie (Brook & Taryn's mom, Chris' younger sister)came yelling, that a black bear was in the campsite next to us. So we got all excited and headed out of the tent. The bear went from one campsite to another, then finally to our site. Thankfully we didn't start making breakfast, that would have been bad. After he saw that there was not any food, he decided to leave and he walked right past the tent that we had occuppied only a few minutes before. After the bear experience we made omlettes for breakfast, (boy it was tasty)and we packed up and headed to Yellowstone Park, were we had a tent site at Grant's Village. Sunday we spent the day seeing Yellowstone. We saw buffalo, elk, and coyote. It was fun to see the girls faces when they saw all of the different animals. Monday we went to Yellowstone Lake to go fishing, but because of the rain that we had all weekend, it was bitterly cold. Chris and Brook were fishing in the front of the boat, when they got soaked by a wave, so we decided to head back in to do more exploring in yellowstone and to break camp and go home.
