Well it finally happened. Our road finally got snowed in. Friday the winds were blowing steadily at 25 mph, causing the snow off the open fields to pile high on the road... I went home the same way as I always do, and that is when I met up with the bad roads. The roads are usually not bad until about 1/2 mile into but this time they were bad from the beginning. I decided to be brave, tighten my grip on the stirring wheel, put my foot on the gas and plow through... As I was driving, I felt like a cowboy trying to break a new colt. Instead of dirt flying in the air, it was snow. Instead of a colt trying to throw me, it was the road. I was driving at a steady pace knowing if I stopped or even slowed down, I would be hoofing it to my house, which is about a 2 1/2 mile walk in snow. So I just kept plowing through. I do have to admit, there were a couple of seconds that I closed my eyes, hoping and praying that I would survive. I finally made it half way and I knew I had to make the next big obsticle, the rail road crossing. If I stopped at the stop sign like a good citizen I would be stuck on the tracks, so I let the rebel in me out and plowed on through with out stopping, not blinking or thinking twice. I finally made it through and I hit an icy patch, yep you guessed right, my car started to spin. I did a full 360 before I stopped. I stopped only due to a snow drift. My adrenaline is as high as it could be at this point, but I knew I had to keep going. Backing the car up enough to turn around, I started back on my journey. My fists are white from holding the wheel so tight, I saw my next victim. It was a drift about 2 feet tall, I braced myself once again and plowed on through. I made it. I finally found a spot on the road that I could stop and relax for a second. As I was stopped, a neighbor in his big Dodge pickup pulled next to me and asked if I was trying to go out from where I had just come. I told him I just came from that direction and I was headed home. He looked at me and then looked my car, and could not believe my car made it through. He told me he just came from the same direction and his big truck was having problems. It totally amazed him to see that my car made it through the snow obsticle. I finally made it through the snow, many of the drifts around the houses and on the roads ranged from 2 - 20 ft. tall. I felt like I lived in Antartica.... When I got home, I made Chris get dressed into his snow gear and we went on a little ride. I wanted to show him how brave and stupid his wife was... He was pretty impressed that I had taken my car throught the winter driving course from H.E._._.
Saturday we tried to get out the opposite way, but that direction was closed also. We were officially snowed in.. The plow finally come through sometime in the night, and it alloud us to make it to church on Sunday.... I will try to get some pictures of the really big drifts. They will amaze you. Can't wait to show mom and dad, what I have been living in for this winter. Hope they are ready for some snow.
