Yellowstone

This year we decided to buy the year pass to the national parks, so we thought we would get our moneys worth and go to Yellowstone this morning. Chris and I headed out first thing this morning so we could get to Yellowstone at a decent hour and have time to really enjoy it.

Norris Geyser Basin

Our first stop was the Norris Geyser Basin. What a disappointment. The last time we visited this place it was fantastic, but for some unknown reason, the geysers are pretty much dormant. So we will not be returning to this destination any time soon.

Tower Falls Area

After we left Norris, we drove through Mammoth and up to Tower. We wanted to see if our favorite (off the beaten path) trail Blacktail would provide us with another bear experience and boy did it. It seems like ever time we go up this trail we see some kind of bear. This time it was a very young black bear. The black bear was eating the berries off of some bush. I think they were currant berries.

Lunch Time at Lamar Valley

Chris chowing down on his sandwich.

Ground squirrel eating a piece of bread.

Picnic area was beautiful. We were surrounded by lodge pole pines.

Self portrait, with Chris making a goofy face.

Chris driving up to our next destination of The Grand Prismatic Springs.

View from the top of a hill on Fairy Falls trail. This trail head gives you an incredible view of the basin. It is so worth the hike of a mile to get to see it like this. Just look at the colors.

Us again.

This random elk that made me think of Darwin's theory, survival of the fittest.
While we were hiking back from the overlook, we saw this elk charge after a photographer that was not giving this wild creature its space. Made me laugh and I just thought he was just plain stupid, especially since a few weeks ago, some Utahan was charged by a bison. Idiots!
Just thought I would take a picture of some of the wildflowers that were still in bloom for the season. The purple flox and sunflowers were every where.

I thought this was gorgeous. The storm was following the same path as the bright blue stream. So it made me think that the clouds were a river in the sky.
We had a great time in Yellowstone, and are looking forward to our next trip in a month or so. It is really amazing to live so close to such a place. We are very blessed and I feel like we finally are taking advantage of it. I never visited Zions, Grand Canyon or Bryce Canyon like this, even though I basically grew up in the back yard of so many great national parks.
