Last fall the farm's blue heeler dog named Maverick came up missing. He was down in the field close by my father-in-law when he came up missing. During the time he came up missing, our road was busy with semi trucks hauling grain and potatoes from the surrounding farms, so we thought he had been hit, but we could never find his body. So we concluded that one of the semi's stopped and took him. Maverick was amazing, he would load up in a truck, tractor and on a 4 wheeler as soon as you told him to load up. He was incredible with cows. His only flaw was that he would bark, and I do mean bark. He would bark relentlessly when he was doing farm work. Anyway we were quite sad not having help with the cows on the farm for the past 9 months.
After Maverick came up missing John (Chris' Dad) asked me to find him another dog for him. He wanted another pure breed male blue heeler that was about 1 year old. (I was the one who found Maverick for him) I have been looking for one since Maverick disappeared, and I could not find a good one. So finally I asked Chris, and he gave me the go a head to start looking for a puppy instead. Every time I called to adopt one from the pound or humane society, they had already been adopted. So I was getting frustrated.
Last week I found a ad in the Thrifty Nickle advertising blue heeler puppies so I made a call. I didn't hear anything back from the owners for several days so I gave up. Sunday I noticed that I had missed a call from them on Saturday, telling me that they had one male blue heeler left. So as soon as I could, I called back and made arrangements to pick him up, the only problem was that they lived in Arimo, Idaho. It was 1 hours drive one way. But Chris and I agreed that we wanted to get this puppy for John for father's day and his upcoming birthday. So we called Chris' family and they all wanted to pitch in to get this puppy for John, and the little girls wanted to come with us to get him. So we loaded Brooklyn, Taryn and Grandma Avery into the car and off we went to get our new puppy for the farm.
We arrived at the family's house where the puppy lived and we instantly fell in love with him. He was exactly what we were looking for. As we drove home he took turns sleeping on the girls laps.
After we arrived back to Idaho Falls, we went out to John's house to wish him a happy Father's day and to give him his puppy. (We stopped at Walmart to get dog food and a collar, so he would be prepared to take care of a puppy. While we were there, Chris noticed that they had a little tie that you could put on dogs, so he thought it would be funny to give him the puppy with a tie on.) We told John that we gave him a tie (the typical father's day gift right) but he would have to wrestle it away from the.... (as I was finishing the my sentence, I gave him the new puppy) John took the little puppy and held him close to him. I asked him if he was upset that he had a puppy and not a dog that was 1 years old, but he said he was just happy to have a new dog to do farm work with.
So my mission was accomplished after 9+ months. We have a very cute little puppy on the farm, fe is adjusting well and has already been with us up to the cabin and on the 4 wheelers. I think we have a great new addition to the farm.
They did everything they could do to keep busy and not get bored.
Pictures of the puppy as we were heading up to the cabin to check on the cows.

(The picture with the Chris and the roots of a tree are from the leaning pine that fell last week. As you can see the root system was massive)
He is a perfect specimen of what a Golden Retriever should look like.
