Saturday's Events

Last night while Chris was coming home from Salmon Idaho from a delivery, Chris's cousin mentioned that there was going to be a bull auction today in Butte Montana. Chris knew that the farm was down a bull and that this spring we would need to replace the one that we sold last summer. So this morning Chris, myself, Robert and Meagan (Robert's daughter) headed out early this morning for Butte, to get the Avery farm a new Black Angus Bull.

When we arrived, Chris and Robert browsed the bulls, sorting the best from the average. Then we waited for the auction to commense. The first 10-15 bulls were big bulls and were going for way more than we wanted to spend. They were averaging $4750 each. When I saw the prices they were going for, I thought that there was no way we would get a good quality bull for less than $2000, but I was wrong. We got a bull that was towards the end and he had great bloodlines and stats. This bull has great potential to sire some great new calves in the next 5 years. All in all, today was busy and I totally didn't think I was going to be in Butte Mt. yesterday. Chris and I really never know where we will end up or end up doing every weekend.
I had a great time looking at the bulls with Chris and I have to say, next time we need to buy a bull, Chris and I might wear some cowboy gear, we were so out of place, like we were city folks. HAHA!

Still making sure he doesn't step into anything.

The new bull # 51 out New Design.

Stats for VA New Design 9151
calving date: 2/9/2009
birth weight: 65 lbs (smaller the better due to easier calving, no pulling calves. Always a good thing)
weining weight: 724 lbs
year weight: 1180 lbs
Average weight gain per day: 3.13lb
Scrotal size:42cm (supposidly the larger the size the more fertile it is)

Also pay attention to the auctioneer, he is fast and confusing when calling the bids out.
