We had a very productive weekend despite the cold weather on Monday. We had planned to go to Missoula MT to visit the grave of my paternal great-great grandmother, but when we pulled up the weather on Saturday and saw that it was calling for snow. We decided not to go. Who wants to drive in snow and ice on Memorial Day? Not me! So we decided to take the money we would have spent on gas and hotel and did a home beautification project instead.
Our plan is to turn the grass/weedy patch to the right of our driveway into our garden (we are having the land tilled next week) and I wanted to have a nice transition from ugly garage/driveway to my garden spot so I had the idea to do a castle wall planter bordering the driveway and we will put another one on the east side of the garden so the garden will be framed, but I need to get some more $$ first. But my vision is to have an nice little arch/pergola as you enter the garden, but we will see.

We spent most of the day Monday at Home Depot, Lowes and Walmart getting the supplies to start the mighty planter. When we got our materials we started the work but we were interupted a couple of times by some pretty big thunderstorms, but we were able to finish the planter with the exception of fitting the bricks that needed to be cut down to smaller size.
Tuesday evening, we spent most of the night (4 hours to be exact) chisling the bricks to the correct size. I was exhausted by the time I had gotten all of them cut down to size, but Chris and I pressed on to get them planted. We wanted to see the fruit of our labor. And it was so worth it by the time we were finished. I think it looks great.
Last night, Chris and I spent the evening outside again. We planted a few trees and spent a couple of hours weeding our tulip bed. The past few days have been incredible and we totally took advantage of it. Our yard is beginning to come together and it actually looks like someone cares about their house. We have had a quite a few people compliment us on what we have tackled so far, but I just like adding our own personal touches in an already established yard.

I can't wait until the clematis climbs the trellis and covers the garage in beautiful purple flowers.
This is my vision of how this area will look.
I am hoping it will be as beautiful as I imagine it.
The green circles will be a lilic hedge on the outside of the fence to the pasture.
Coy deadheading the flowers in the flower bed. Yep, all of the weeds on the grass came from the bed. I had been slacking off and not weeding, and I paid the price by pulling huge dandilions out.
